Catch your breeze

What’s your name for it? Since I carved this large sycamore seed pod, people who have seen it have referred to it as a helicopter, a propeller, a wing, a key, a whirly gig and even a spinning jenny! It’s shaped from a single slab that I cut from a large Y-shaped stump.

Although it’s a depiction of a sycamore seed, it’s actually carved from elm. And, ironically, it’s now lying beneath a sweet chestnut tree.

It’s currently on display at the recently renovated Knockando Wool Mill and can be seen there until they close for Winter at the end of October. It’s a great place to visit and gives a fascinating insight into the textiles industry of the 17th – 19th Century. More information can be found here.
