I was asked to add some text to an existing inscription on this pink granite headstone. It was a tricky commission as the original inscription was sand-blasted and I had to emulate it. Sand-blasted inscriptions leave a flat base to the text with straight edges, which isn’t how a traditionally carved letter comes out. On top of that, granite is either incredibly hard or crumbles like a digestive biscuit, depending on how long it’s been sitting out in the weather. This stone was both! Lettering painted afterwards and original paint touched up. The stone has now gone back to a lovely little graveyard in the Cairngorms.
